Media Player 9 Problem with Window XP

Geek Trainee
I installed Window XP Professional with Service Pack 2 which
includes Media Player 9.

To my surprise I cannot properly play some video clips
which I downloaded using W98SE.

I was under the impression having a good Media Player
nothing else is needed. But it seems that there is an endless
list of plug ins required and what have you.

Some of the video clips play but are horrible to look at,
all kind of colors appear all over the screen.

I appreciate any help or hints

Windows Media Player can play most video files, but you need to install some third party plugins first:

Apple Quicktime
DivX codecs
DVD codecs
Realaudio/video codecs

Personally I use Realplayer because it DOES play anything you throw at it :)

Yes

what happens is Microsoft makes WMP but cannot insert codec for rm files or quicktime files........same as other companies Like Real, apple etc....
They can not put codecs to play file of each others player. copyright or patent problem....Not sure y so~!

Only thing you can do is download the third party codecs to play files on Player.......For eg. DIVX........ This codec helps to play nearly all kinds of files on the windows media player~!....I am personally using this one and I dont have any Real player or Quicktime player on my computer. I just use WMP10~!
