    Hi

I'm confused about the memory on my graphics card and could use some advice. I have a Pallit 2GB Geforce GTX 285. The GPU-Z utility shows the memory as 2048MB which is what I would expect.

However I've also run dxdiag on Windows 7 and it shows the approx memory as 748MB which is way too low.

I've searched the forum and some posts suggest you have to divide this by 3 for GDDR3 memory to get the right figure. This would give 249MB effective memory on a 2GB card! If this post is correct it should be showing as 6144MB.

I also read somewhere else that dxdiag does not count memory in use but surely it doesn't take this much to run the desktop?

I'm confused and am worried that something is wrong with my graphics card.

    Can anyone help?

    Regards

    Mag

Thanks for replying so quickly. If mine were showing as a higher figure in dxdiag I wouldn't be so worried. It's the fact that over half the memory appears to be missing that worries me. I'm using a 64 bit operating system so I shouldn't be having problems with the low RAM cap on some 32 bit systems.

    Thanks again

Try GPU-Z util that will show you exactly how much memory you have.

    :)

Thanks for replying. GPU-Z shows 2048MB as expected. What I can't understand is why dxdiag is so low. Which is correct?
