I was running memtest86 the other day to diagnose some machine_check_exception bsods. It turns out the problem was having power to my DVD drive on the same rail as my graphics card. But during the research I found that one stick of PC3200 memory (512M) had several errors show up in a particular spot. But once I fixed my power problem everything runs. The question: Am I asking for trouble by running memory that memtest86 says is faulty? Thanks,
If the computer works fine with no errors then theres no need to worry imo. Memtest is purposly intensive, more intensive than possibly the programs you use? It does say in the readme for memtest somewhere that not all errors are necessarily to do with you ram. It might be worth a read.
If you're having multiple hundreds of errors in your RAM, then you should consider replacing it. A few may or may not be harmful. As zeus said, check memtest86 documentaiton for any further information on this.
