I'm giving some very serious consideration to building an SFF system based on Intels 945GTPLKR Mico ATX. My question is if I use one of the new, large PCI-E GPUs (ie-7800 or 1900 series) won't that completely block out at least one of the PCI slots? I'm thinking yes, it would. My reasoning is based on whether or not I could fit an internal PCI based wireless adapter as well as a high-end sound card along witha a dedicated GPU. Of course the wireless adapter could be external and the sound card is a definite maybe at this point. Just trying to think things through in terms of what I might want to do down the road. Tom
That board only has one PCI slot. You will be able to use a new PCIe video card in that slot but forfieting the Sound card and the Wi-Fi card. My suggestion is to not buy any Micro ATX board due to the limited expansion capabilities. Buy a standard ATX sized board and your garaunteed atleast one PCI expansion card.
If you're looking at a lot of expansion down the road, a mATX board really is gonna limit you quite a bit. Otherwise, if you get a single-slot Radeon X1900-series or a 7800/7900-series GPU, it'll work.
