Is there any difference between the oem and retail versions, casue i can get the oem XP for like $80 from newegg, also what type of Microsoft office do you recommend, casue there is a couple of similar ones, student teacher edition 2003, student teacher edition 2003 (academic), these are all the $80 ones which one should i get. Or do you guys recomend another one.

The only diffrence between the oem and the err.... "non oem" editions is that oem's have less packaging and need to be sold with an "integril part of a computer"

Allthough they dont normally bother enforcing it, go with the oem...... or use linux (where you pay nothing)

As for Office, i dont have much advice but you can get "open office" which is basically the same thing (but more features, supports more file formats etc) for free here (this is a legal free, its open source)
