Hey all, I just have a quick question if you may. Basically, I have the following monitor: LG 1970HR. Previously I had been using a VGA cable to connect my monitor to my PC, however, just recently I found in my GFX card box a VGA > DVI converter. My GFX card is an Nvidia GeForce 7600GT @ 256MB. I am now using the converter to convert the VGA connection to a DVI, the only thing is, when I look at my monitor properties, it says 'Analogue' and also when I turn it on, it also comes up in the top right hand corner saying ' analogue'. I have looked through my monitors menu system and haven't been able to find any option allowing me to change the output from analogue to dvi. Also, i tried to do this through my Nvidia control panel and was again unsuccessful. I was just wandering if anybody had any idea or tips on what I should or could do to make the display digital rather than analogue. I thought that by using the converter it would automatically do it, but nothing has happened. Thanks for any and all help.
It was my understanding that simply adding a DVI to VGA adapter to a native VGA monitor did not make it digital. It just allows you to downgrade a DVI GFX card to VGA
are u sure about that? i mean, if thats so thats really unfortunate for me, i might aswell take it off then? does ne body have any other thoughts as to what i may do?
Don't forget that DVI can supply both analog and digital signals with its DVI-A, DVI-D and DVI-I interface pin arrangements. If I understand correctly you've taken a digital signal, used a VGA > DVI-A interface converter and expected the converter to change the supplied signal to a digital one. In order to acheive this you'd need to spend 200+ to buy a VGA to DVI scaler and in reality you'd gain nothing because you would still be dependant on a analog signal at some point in your connection to your monitor. For a digital signal you need to use a DVI connection from your graphics card to a DVI connection on your monitor.
