I was just wondering if I had an extra IDE card, could I have more than four devices in my system? (Hard drive, cdrom, etc)? Thanks.

An extra IDE card shouldn't cause any problems. I would say one thing tho: Try to keep your HDD's on their own channel as long as possible and on the extra IDE controller. Load up the motherboard's IDE controllers first with anything not a hard drive. I feel this gives better performance, but that's just me.
BIOS limitation? Not unless it's an older PC (an I mean really old)--and even then I doubt it. The addon card would most likely have its own BIOS and not be affected by the motherboards BIOS. The only real problem I can see is if the PCI card requires a newer PCI revision spec than the PCI slots on the mobo.

Hmm. I tried this once in two different motherboards. The problem I encountered was the IRQ issue. The onboard IDE channels use 14 and 15. The card I tried to install, a HotPoint, wanted to use those IRQ's. It may have very well been the card I was using as it was hardwired for those IRQ's.
The Highpoint 372 chipset has a problem with VIA motherboard chipsets. Oooopppsss!
So if you've got one of those on your M/B stay away from a card i#with that highpoint chipset.

Hmmm. Well, I don't like Promise. Both motherboard's I've had have had the Promise controllers go out on me. I'm sticking with highpoint. Also, I haven't heard of any incompatibilities with Via chipsets and the HPT372 RAID controller. I certainly would hope this isn't affecting the KT266A chipset, as Abit, uses this and the HPT372 on the KR7A-RAID.

They throw a wobbly when they mixed the two.
Cured with a BIOS flash for the 372 chipset.
So it can be fixed.
Don't ask how I know. I just do.
If you find diffrent let me know. 'Cause this is for me as much as for everyone else.
But yes it can be fixed, just a bit of a p****er to do so.
As for Scan, I've a friend who is really overpaid and lives online.
So if you can show me that that price is wrong.

You should wait till next year.
Epox are releasing a dual Athlon MB, which is less than £200 or on a rough $300.
AMD chipset and on board network card and DDR.
Plus it's designed by the man who use to design Intels server boards.
Thats what I have planed for next PC :devil:
A couple of 1.1ghz and 2gh of DDR and it take a max of 4.
No onboard RAID as yet :swt: but easy fixed with a separate one.

Epox sent a minon to tell us all their is to know about there products.
It's so new that in the panflets they gave they don't even have a picuture yet.
Being a small company people part with info that they would normaly keep sectert.
Plus I have sources in Epox :cool:
