Will the motherboard blow out if the underside of it is touching the metal case of the tower on the inside?

There was a guy looking at my build and he said to not power it up until he tests the setup with a motherboard current checker thing to see if it is touching otherwise it will blow out, however a friend of mine said it wont blow it will just not start up.

So which is the truth, can anyone help?

    thanks.

Whether or not the board fries depends on exactly which solder tails are touching the chassis, but even if it doesn't fry that's not good. Typically there are little copper or tin risers that lift the motherboard off of the mobo mounting plate by about 1/4". There should be no area of the back of the board which touches your chassis; the only contact point should be the grounding zones around the mounting screw holes. In other words, the screws themselves and nothing else. I hope I'm making sense, it's very early where I am. :p

yea its early here to, its lunch time :p

the motherboard is mounted on the mounting plate things and is screwed in but we cant see between the 1/4" gap to see if any solder is touching the case. Well thanks for the info.

If in doubt, unmount the motherboard and be sure the risers line up with the mounting holes on the mobo. It's better to waste a little time being cautious than waste a lot of time & money being wrong. Believe me, I'm speaking from experience here. :x:
