okay i got a 6800gt card in me comp and its never done this before but latley its been overheating when i play games, or 3dmark my computer etc etc... even at night time wen its cold

i got 3 fans and a neon light in it, but the neonlight doesnt give off heat so its not that i got a new power box 500w i had a 400w b4 that.

now when i changed my powerbox my motherboard light switched itself from the colour green to the colour orange, so i was like mm strange but didnt bother me so 2 days later the light turns itself off and doesnt turn on when the computer is on its (sb power) or light.

a mate rekons its the battery on my motherboard but i dont think it is its fairly new. now ever since then my graphics card has been overheating it never use to do that and it idles at around 75 degrees, it turns itself down at 120 degrees.. and wen i play games it reaches 120+ so i have to quit i never checked it b4 but i dont think it was at 75 normally

could it be the powerbox? too much power into the gpu?? lol?
or mabie the motherboards fault? or what?

my card is a albatron trinity 2nsddr3 256mb nvidia gefroce 6800gt.

(and yes ive updated all my motherboard drivers and my graphics card drivers)
my mobo is a ASUS K8N-E Deluxe. nforce3.

sorry, since i changed my power box over from a 400w to a 500w the green (sb pwr) light on the motherboard turned orange, then turned itself off.

i also put 3 fans and a neon light in my computer case.
since my 400w i've put in 3 fans and a neon light thats all i have changed in my computer.

so the light that has turned itself off is the sbpwr light on the actual motherboard, and ever since then my graphics card has been overheating.
and also the heat sinks on my motherboard seem to be hotter then b4.

I would suggest you check how much power you rcomputer needs here (thanks to megamaced who brought that site up in this thread)

but 500w is pleanty (if the amps are good aswell), BUT theese guys dont seem to like that power supply

But dont worry, if they where that bad they would be illegal!

Do you still have the old PSU? would you be able to try running the computer off it for awhile (a few days maby) and see if that makes any diffrence!

if the power supply sucks it can undervolt the system and cause major damage

Well when i first changed over power boxes the sbpwr light on my mobo turned onrange, i believe this light indicated if power is going through the motherboard. then after it turned off it came on again but very dim and its green.

ive changed over to my old power box and it is still very dim green, i will leave this in for a few days and see what happens, otherwise im out of options.

Green is good, orange almost always means something is wrong on LEDS, Red means its too late and off could mean anything. I would worry about your mobo getting damaged. If it's a socket A, 478, or 754 you might consider upgrading soon enough anyway. If it's a 939 or Socket T, I wouldn't even run the computer just to be safe.

I considered buying an Omni, but I have read a lot of forums that they can't handle as much power as they say they can. I bet that's your problem. One possibility is to go into your PC Health Status and check the voltages for things and then check what they are supposed to be from the manufacturer. For example, if your CPU is getting 1,2 volts (too little), I'd bet its your power supply. In fact, I already do bet it's your power supply not getting enough voltage to your cpu. It could be your motherboard though, too.

    How does/can undervolting damage hardware?

Doesnt make any sence :eek:hah: .... unless, if its supplies the same wattage (with less voltage) then a amp's are going to be higher? (or am i talking :swear:)

    someone explain :p
