Hey i jus upgraded my pc (dint buy any fancy brands infact dint even bother to look at the brands) ne who i dint buy a grafic card since i dint have money n now i do so im thinkin of upgrading again (well only grafic card ) but i dont know which cards are supported following are my specs intel e6550 2.33ghz 1.5gb ram (ddr2) i think its simpeltech *the company i mean 120gb Hard disk intel desktop board DG31PR (mother board) 550watt power supply (will upgrade as n when necessary) Can some one plz tell me if i can support the latest grafic cards or not (Also if theres any other way to find out detailed specs of my pc) also ive seen GDDR3 in the specs of some grafic cards does it mean i have to upgrade my ram to a ddr3 for it to work on my rig? thanks
no, GDDR means - Graphics Double Data Rate 3, basically only the grx card needs to support GDDR3. memory on your grx card has nothing to do with the DDR2 RAM you have installed in your system, BTW: i'm not the best person to recommend a grx card, you have a PCIe X16 slot, but, are you currently using the (crappy for gaming) onboard grx Edit: GDDR5 products will probably start appearing during the first half of 2008
OK, basically donkey's answers are correct. The mobo you have is junk but if you like your stock speeds on your proc you actually have a decent setup. You can get any PCI-Ex GPU you'd like. Which you want depends on what games you want to play. Obviously you dont need to buy a card that will not be utilized to it's potential and you don't want to buy a card that will bottleneck your games. So give us a list and I will try to help you out.
I use a 7600GS in my other system, I consider myself a casual gamer now, maybe the odd game of Battlefield 2 here, and the odd few rounds of Counter Strike Source there, works a dream for anything I use with it. If you are wanting to play newer (Vista based) games, that require Full DirectX 10 (dont think there are any yet) Then that is the only reason against buying this card, or even the one up, the 7600GT. Just my little reccommendation
thanks for the reply sorry for the delay wznt able to use my pc in a while ... ne ways by the end of this month ill have enuf cash to get watever grafic card i want be it 8800 ultra or 7600gs (as mentioned by rimmer) im jus lookin for my options if im able to run a 8800 ultra then tat would b awsome (n no i dont have plans to overclock or do any of tat kind of stuff) im jus lookin for names of latest or slightly old grafic cards tat can run on my current setup. thanks again Also im really hoping to play crysis on this setup (not necessairly on full settings but still decently ) (after i get the grafic card ofcourse_
Don't get the 8800 Ultra. Waste of money. If you want to play crysis you WILL need a pretty good card. The 8800GT 512 or if you want to save some money the ATI 3870 would do for you.
by the time i get the money ill b having around 3800 dhs (1055 Us Dollars) so money is not a problem for me im jus lookin for the BEST grafic card i can run on my pc tats able to handel all the latest games and the games to come. with tat kind of money i know i can get a whole new better setup but i jus got this setup around a month back (dint have much cash back then) so im jus spending on the grafic card and the power supply rite now(to support the grafic card)
OK, well if spending an extra $150 for an extra 5 frames per second, I guess that's your money to waste..
