Motherboard upgrade

Hi, I'm going to upgrade my current motherboard the ASUS P5 VDC -MX with the Asrock 775i915P-SATA2 .My current build specs are:
CPU: Pentium D CPU 3.46 GHz
Motherboard: Asus P5VDC-MX
Memory: 1.5 GB DDR 400
Video Card: BFG 7800 GS OC AGP
Monitor: 19" Samsung SynMaster 931 BW
Sound Card: onboard
Storage: 80 gb sata, 40 GB IDE
O/S: Win xp

I'd like to double check whether everything but the graphics card would be compatible with the new mobo? I'm not planning to upgrade the ram or processor yet, but I want to be ready later. The asrock one was the only one I could find that supported Lga 775,Pci E and ddr ram. Thanks guys :)
 
everything is compatible... just not the graphics card... but you were going to replace it right?
 
ASRock actually makes a 775 mobo that accepts both AGP and PCI-E in case you didn't want to replace your vid card right away.
 
if i were you i wouldn't ever do it

asrock is not a stable board there's a lot of problems spreading around i have never used it but i heard too much

both agp and pci express contaning model has a disadvantage

that's not an agp8x slot, that's a simplified agp slot called agp express so it won't give the same performance as your old mobo.

i suggest you to wait a bit more to get a 945p chipset and a ddr2-667 ram, these won't cost too much as your old parts will be counted for price while doing an upgrade

actually the agp slot is a fully 8x slot. The new versions of the board also have a southbridge that supports the full 16x pci-e. ASRock had a bad rep because it is not as big a brand as ASUS or A-Bit or anything like that, but their boards do function. They make good stepping stone boards, I would never run one full time or overclocked.
 
the board is agp slot, having lowered bandwidth but also supporting 3.3v and other 1.8v cards. it's showing like an agp4x, they also say express is not powerful as 8x

That's a great MB. The chipset Intel P35 is one of the best in the market. It's my second choice in MB Brand's, the first one is ASUS! :D

Just one thing... The AsRock Brand is the ASUS second brand! It's an ASUS board but the components are cheaper in some cases. Thats why AsRock MB's are cheaper. It's a way for ASUS sells MB's cheaper without lose is name.
Like Samtron is Samsung. You open a Samtron Monitor, and what are the componets inside of it? I tell you: Samsung! :D
So, AsRock is a way for people buy an ASUS Mobo but cheaper. What ASUS gain with that? They sell a lot more Mobos, a lot more cheaper, especially for assembled computers, and mantain is quality and expensive products, and the name ASUS continues to be associated to quality and hi tech. :P

Gigabyte its a good choice also! :cool:
