hi all :)i am using intel965RY... and on board sound card(6 channels)... and i recently bought altec lancing VS3251 (5.1 speakers).... i am using winamp 5.73(x86) for playing mp3 files... whenever i play mp3 files in winamp, music is played only in the front two speakers and subwoofer... but not in the center speakr or rear speakers...is there any special plugin to play music in all the 6 speakers??? or is there any software to convert mp3 to ac3 so that i can play it in all the 6 channels??... thanks in advance :)

Yes, the mp3 should play on all of your speakers. Is Winamp the only program that wont play in them all or will other programs also not.

If winamp is the only program:
Go to Options>Preferences>Playback and make sure that Allow Surround Sound is checked.

If it is all of your programs:
    1. Should probably try this first as it's the easiest; is there a fader on your amp? Make sure you have it in the middle so front and rear speakers all play.

    2. Have you got the all of the jacks plugged correctly? Make sure center front and back are all in their corresponding jacks.

    3. Make sure that under the volume settings it is set up for surround sound speakers.

    4. Try using just the center output from your PC to the center input on your amp. That should set it up as a 2.1 setup. Do you have sound comming out of the other speakers now?

On your mobo CD did you receive some sound software? It sounds like yo uneed to set it up to accept "simulated" surround sound for non-true 5.1 files. Install all of your sound software then dig around for a simulated surround option.
