There is two new members in the fight against pirate DVDs: two black Labrador Retrievers named Lucky and Flo. The MPAA has backed the Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT) in training the two dogs to sniff out DVDs in packages coming into the United Kingdom.

The groups claim that pirated DVDs are often smuggled in packages with other contents. In their first test at FedEx's British hub at Stansted Airport in Essex, England, Lucky and Flo successfully sniffed out packages and parcels containing DVDs.

Now here is a great waste of time!

Its not exactly hard to prevnt the 'smell' of a DVD from coming out a bag... and im sure theese big 'pirates' can get a shrink wrap machine and then wash the bag with the DVD's in it (and shrink wrap it again if nessisary...).

Surely they would be much better with X-Ray Machines and A computer! (that can regocnise DVD's from any angle!). AND it would also be able too see other suspicious things!

Anyway, how would they stop an individual coming back with 100's of DVD's ripped onto a laptop/portable hard drive...

I never knew you could smell DVD's!

Dogs nose are much sensitive, they can smell things from far and they can trace you as well just by smelling your foot steps. Can we do that? Answer is no!

We cant say anything about this idea because personally I am not familiar with so many breeds of the dogs. On ther other side, hackers and pirators always find out their own way of cheating. Thats how technology grows so fast :)

Here's where you run into issues:

How can they differentiante between a pirated disc and a legit one? They can't. This isn't like hunting for pot, where the evidence is either there or not. The MPAA can't say if I'm sending someone a DVD they purchased from me or getting as a gift or not without opening the thing up or running it through a scanner.
