Hello, I currently have Win XP and Kubuntu installed on my pc once had vista as well (all together) I have deleted vista some time ago. Now when my boot load comes up I have a few options kubuntu, XP, and XP and Vista loader. If I chose XP I get an grub 18 error but if I select XP and Vista load it boots into xp because I have delted vista. Any whay how can this be fixed and how could I safely delete kubuntu? - Thanks alot, Dale.
Welcome to hardwareforums dale1991  to do anything safely, you MUST have a backup of all your documents that you would lose if something went wrong (assume it will, and you will be fine tho ) You can remove kubuntu, remove the kubuntu + Vista partitions and resize the windows XP partition to cover the entire drive from the liveCD you used to install kubuntu. Boot up from the kubuntu liveCD and bring up a console and install gparted (i find it easier to use than the KDE replacement) Code: right click, run command > konsole, and then enter:- "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install gparted" Using GParted, remove the Kubuntu & Vista partition and then resize the windows XP partition to the full size of the drive (it will take quite awhile to run this btw), once you have done this install GRUB into the MBR (Master boot record, where the BIOS looks for a OS to boot or details of where to find one!). THIS post on ubuntuforums explains howto install grub to the MBR of your hard drive. Good luck! (and remember to backup anything important! ) Impy
i presume tha kubuntu is in control of the bootloader, if so, post /boot/grub/menu.lst use this command in kubuntu's konsole Code: kdesu kate /boot/grub/menu.lst or just remove the entries in menu.lst yourself Edit: or use the LiveCD like Impy said P.S. i never backup
Done it, Thanks guys. I have one more question, I have a legal version of XP Pro 64-Bit. Do you It would be better to use that instead of xp home 32-bit?
Sorry If I sound noobish.... I am getting my internet connection from cable -> ethernet will this still effect me? also Will I be able to run 32-bit apps on it?
Internet access through a network should work fine, as long as your network card works :/ WinXP x64 did have a compatibility mode (but if its anything like winXP's compatibility mode then its not perfect). What you should do is resize the windows XP partition creating some space to try winXP x64 with. PS make sure you run check disk on the partition you resized if it didn't run when you booted up
