I recently got a PC. (it was free. Other specs good except the video card. It didn't have one. Only 32 megs on integrated video. Yuck. So then I went and bought a 50 dollar video card with 256. Runs great. My friend helped me install it. I installed the driver that came with it. Here's a link to the actual card. SAPPHIRE Radeon 9550 100577L-1 Video Card - Retail at Newegg.com It supports DirectX9 so I can't image it's too "old" for Halo and other slightly older games. When I launch Halo however, it starts to go, but then tells me that is sees the card, but can't start up DirectX 3DDraw. or something. It says Hardware Acceleration may be off. I ran the dxdiag program from the run menu and Hardware Acceleration IS ON. Any ideas? I am baffled and a little ticked off my (expensive for me) video card isn't doing what I want it to. *big surprise*
What else does your comp have in it?(ram, proccesor etc) and dont let the amount of memory in a video card fool you. Some 256mb cards might as well have 128, I could be wrong in your case but an agp card that puts 256mb to use for 50$ is an almost impossible buy. Im not sure if it is the same in your case but it wouldnt suprise me. As far as your problem I dont have much accept maybe uninstall and reinstall drivers for card. Besides that your gonna have to find someone more vid card savvy then me.
Make sure you've got the correct drivers installed for the card. If the ones you get on the CD fail, try downloading newer ones frm the ATi website.
yeah, download new drivers, cos the bundled cd may have incorrect or outdated drivers on it (unusual but not unheard of)
I"ll download the latest driver, if I can find it. I can't imagine this card would be incomptabile with Halo. One thing I found this morning. Is it installed in the PCI slot. I found this information through Device Manager. I thought it was an AGP card. Hmm.
The AGP bus is a 32-bit, 66MHz one. It's basically a faster PCI bus set aside for video cards, so technically, it's correct. The physical connector may be different. AGP and PCI slots are physically incompatible with each other, so you either have an AGP card or you don't. What version of DirectX do you have? You may want to make sure that's up to date before updating your video card drivers.
I ran dxdiag and I have 9.c And Halo only requires 9.b It says a problem was occurred when launching "Direct3D". Is Direct3D different than DirectX? When I am in Direct3D, I can "test" it. So I'm pretty sure I have it.
When you type dxdiag in run, first thing you see in system tab is a list of specifications which you got and the version of directX is at the end of those specifications. In regards to querry I have no idea at the moment but will search for it.
Customer Reviews Of SAPPHIRE Radeon 9550 100577L-1 Video Card - Retail That's a link to some reviews. So from reading that I know I could play games w/ this card.
I looked to see what driver I am using. I am currently using 05.7 and on Sapphire's website they have version 6.4 I will download it shortly. (only 30 minutes) And I can officially confirm that I have DirectX 9.c And I have Direct3D 6.14.10 *sighs*
I figured it out!!!!! If you try searching for Halo + Direct3D on google, you'll get a mountain for forum posts with people having my exact same problem. The solution turned out to be very easy. See the attached pic. All I did was download the small file and replace with the file in the Halo directory. That's it. Nothing more.
