I'm going to buy my new rig soon, so before I order, I'd like to get some feedback on it, some final advice and hopefully some blessings Below are the parts it consists of. Goal is to have a pretty silent and powerful Multimedia & Gaming PC. Main tasks: Gaming (Oblivion, Dreamfall, Alan Wake, Age of Empires III, etcetera etcetera) and Web Design (Dreamweaver/Fireworks, Photoshop, ...), some internet browsing and general multimedia stuff (video, audio etc.); audio creation (amateur, not pro) in the near future. Conditions: - has to be powerful enough to play recent and upcoming games - has to be easily upgradable; planning to upgrade with another 7900GT in SLI in the future + perhaps a dual-core processor (which is why I went for the 550Watt power supply instead of 500W). - has to be pretty silent (although dead-silent not really necessary)
That power supply is 24-pin, so you will not need an adapter. Now, I've been reading around, and it seems that this power supply is having some serious issues with Asus nForce 4 motherboards. Why, I don't know, and rather surprised. The Enermax EG701AX or EG565P-VE would both suite your needs well.
Yes, but it seems that with the newest Bios and shipments it should be solved. See this post: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=843075&postcount=15 I'll be sure to mention it to the shop though. If it's a no-go, I'll try one of the Enermaxes. Thanks for the tip on those.
That's the only thing I can see being any sort of issue. You might also see how loud the video card is before snagging an additional cooler. If you leave your case on the ground, you'll also find it to be less noisy---since it's farther away from your head. Additionally, you'll get more desktop space.
Great. Now my folks are bugging me about the following computer: http://www.medion.co.uk/flash/md8800/index.html it will sell for €1000 here in a few days. Dad challenged me to compare this to the one I so carefully researched above. I'm a bit insulted, since he doesn't even know the basics of hardware (e.g. what goes in a computer and what it all means). Of course I can decide what to do with my hard-earned money myself (thank you), but I still live at home (bummer, at moments like this), and if I don't respond smart to it now, I think I'll never hear the end of it! Sure, it's a nice piece of work from Medion, but some things I'm not happy with. E.g. I don't really like the graphics card. WTH is a 6700XL!!? By searching and looking really, really hard, it seems that the card is a bit below a 6600GT. If I wanted something worse than a 6600GT, well I have a Geforce 440MX atm... I'll take that 7900GT, thanks. Then there is theTV card stuff, looks great and all, but I don't need it. The whole thing in general is just overkill for me. I also don't like the case and I'm afraid the PSU (built-in probably) won't be powerful enough when upgrade time comes. And especially I'm worried about upgradability. And it really fscks that when these promotions come *nowhere* can you find a list with all the components used! How the ... can you compare then? Any 'convincing' tips for me?
