Hey there.. I have an X-Fi XtremeMusic sound card and I'm looking to buy logitech speakers. However, one thing I'm very nervous about is the magnetic field, or magnets contained in speakers and the subwoofer. Can an LCD monitor be damaged by the magnets or magnetic field? I'm guessing the effects on the computer wouldn't be very good (hard drives being wiped, etc). I basically need help choosing logitech speakers, I would greatly appreciate it. I would like suggestions for both 2 speakers and 5 speakers. Thanks, Burratus
Hmmm. I've never heard of a magnetic field disturbing a monitor. Usually the field is pertained to the speakers and does not affect its surroundings. Usually the case disrupts the field from escaping, I dunno I’m not a magnet expert but it shouldn't be a problem unless it right next to the monitor and even so it shouldn’t be a problem.
If you plan to have your speakers situated close to your computer, make sure they are magnetically shielded speakers
No, you wont be affected by any magnetic power of your speakers until you open them and put them on your HDD or CD or whateva........Which you will never do. Here is a very good review on [link=http://www.hardwareforums.com/content-view/logitech-z-5500-5-1-speaker-system-1-13505/]Logitech z5500 5.1 speakers[/link], just have a look. Probably it will help you to set up your mind, what to get.
Hi, i must say, the Z5500's subwoofer is not magnetically shielded, and if it is positions very close to a TV or Monitor it will effect the screen, but the cables are long eough that it shouldend be hard to place far enough away from a monitor, i had the sub half a metre near the computer tower, it did not do any harm, same for the Monitor , However the sattelite speakers wont effect monitors as there shielded. What do you want your PC Speakers for, Gaming, Movies, Music etc.., The Logitech Z5500 would be a good choice, you wont get better for the price, there about £200, whats your Budget?. I would suggesting looking at reviews on Logitch Z5500 and Z5400/Z5450 (wireless rear speakers) If your going for 2.1, the Logitech Z2300 would be good, 2x40W RMS satelites and 1x 120W 8" longthrow subwoofer, Whats are not the main thing, its the quality of the components.
I wouldnt underestimate magnetic fields and monitors. I runined my mums telly a few years back by putting a PS2 controller on the top. The green has kinda gone now but I can still see it cos I know its there. It was a £2k telly and she only had a few months :| Ive learned my lesson.
i have to admit, i put my Logitech z5500 sub about just under half a metre away from one of my CRT monitors, when i cam in the room, from that distance i couild see wierd stuff on the monitor when i blinked lol, as soon as i moved the sub away the wierd stuff went, but since then my monitor has been going on and off.
Yea, it can affect computers tho, i am going to have to be extra carefull, as i am planning to have 2 car subs in my room, 2x 12" power acoustik FUBR-12's (700W RMS each, thats 1400W RMS), i am a bass junkie , the magnetic fields would be strong on those sukers
