Ok, i am a big noob and i need some help ><. My Computer is experiencing some problems when i try to use 2x1gb memory chips at the same time (they work fine seperatly). Well, what happens is that my computer keeps restarting when i get to the screen where you choose which user to log on with. It restarts 10sec after that screen pops up. I wondered what the problem might be and a friend suggested that i updated my bios, so i asked him about which motherboard i have (yes, i bought the PC from him, but i am noob ><) and he told me i had a acer T180 and he gave me a link to a site with some bios stuff. I DLed the files he told me to DL and followed his instructions. But it seems to me that those files doesn't work because nothing happens and no screen pops up or anything. So i decided to check myself what motherboard i have. I dled a program that tells me what stuff i have but something must be bugged because it only showed me "ACER ERC410Mÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ" ><. and i checked inside my computer and it had some text that said "RC410-M2" and i checked google and found a picture of it. And that was the motherboard i had. Now i need to find bios update tools for it but i just can't find anything that has been added since 2006 ><. If anyone knows where i can download it or what i need to search for or anything, can you please tell me? :O, really want 2Gb ram>< PS: I have another problem aswell and my friend said that it might be fixed aswell if i update Bios!
It sounds more like an issue of the two RAM sticks using different ICs that are butting heads somehow. Unless the BIOS update explictly states addressing your issue, it's discouraged to update the BIOS on a whim. What's the brand a model of each stick?
Both the sticks are same type, the one i used at first ( i still use that one atm) is a Transcend 1024mb and the 2 new ones are Kingston 1024mb. I got another problem that i can just write here too >< WHen i start my computer i get to the Acer screen and when it goes away it turns black with a white "-" in the upper left corner blinking for a few sec before the screen is total black for 2min. Then windows begins to load and i log on.
Your RAM: are you using the two Kingston sticks together and having problems, or are you using the Transcend with them? For the slow load problem: Go into BIOS (you'll have to hit a key when the system first boots up like Delete, F1, F2, etc. which will be displayed on the POST screen---well, usually). Once in there, load the default settings and then save and exit.
i use both the kingston chips , they work fine seperatly . i can try loading default settings for the loading problem ^^ ty
Well i tried to load default settings, but i still have the same problem And i also tried to update Bios but it won't work : / it just says "Patch Bios" i press patch: "please use BIOS:test.bin" and then a mesage that says it didn't work. :S
First off, sounds like your post screen may be disabled. This is changable in your BIOS, as mobo companies add this option to stop ignorant people from hitting F1 when they see the "Press F1 for Options" tag. It can be labeled in there as a number of things so just look around. And I think Big B is trying to ask if you are using Both Kingston RAM AND your old Transcend sticks at the same time.
