    Hello,

My first post and I hope someone can help!!!

I have a Packard Bell IMEDIA 3050 that wouldn't boot - I have been told it needs a new motherboard. The repair shop said it was not economic to repair - but I have seem motherboards at good prices on ebuyer.com

I have no idea what to buy that will fit and work with the other components. The spec of the current motherboard is

    Core - Columbia V (GA-8SIML-NF5) Ver 2.0 - spec_columbia5 - Information and Instructions - IMEDIA 3050 - P842006501 - iMedia - platform_danube_imedia - Desktop

Thank you for reading. Any helpful suggestions would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks

A few things to look at:

1.)The motherboard must be Socket 478
2.)It must be in an mATX formfactor (MicroATX)
3.)Your current one uses the SiS 651 chipset. While not absolutely necessary, for best results, you'll want to purchase a motherboard with that specific chipset on it.

The motherboard you have uses a ID scheme of Gigabyte. Gigabyte doesn't have that particular model in your computer as a retail option. I did look at their GA-SIML series, and found one that matches the layout provided, the GA-SILMH.

Unfortunately, you're probably not going to find one of those except on eBay or otherwise second hand.

If you don't want to hunt, seems to be the only one that would fit your needs without changing the case is the ASrock P4I65G. Do note that you will probably have to reinstall Windows, due to this one using the Intel i865G chipset.

Thank you for your speedy reply.

I had a look at the ebuyer one. I was worried as it seemed to be SATA rather than IDE (showing the computers age I suppose)

Would it still work do you think ?

    Thanks so far !

The ASrock I linked has 2 IDE ports as well as 2 SATA ones.

Hey, that's how I got started. It wasn't as difficult to assemble as I thought, so if you've got much of any mechanical inclination, you should be able to pull it off.
