I am looking for a new video card and i wonder if i should get the Geforce 6800 (not GT or Ultra) or Radeon x800 pro, they are both 200 on http://www.tigerdirect.com but i dont know which to choose, the geforce is xFX and the x800 pro is connect3D, thanks for any advice you give.
The X800 Pro is faster in every aspect. No question if they are both the same price. You can find a detailed comparason here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...82E16814127179,N82E16814102465&SubCategory=48
Absolutly right, though the 6800 may be a little bit faster in Doom 3 (optimizations for the GeForce series) the X800 Pro is a faster card, it has speedier memory GDDR3 vram, OpenGL 2.0, and 256Mb's or vram. The 6800 has much slower clock speeds, less vram with the AGP version (128Mb's) and you have to pay extra to get OpenGL 2.0 vs. a 1.5 version.
Not to mention the fact that the core speed is 125 MHz faster and the memory clock is 300 MHz faster. Go for the X800 Pro, and happy gaming.
also theres a hack how to turn an X800 pro into a much higher priced X800XT, heres the hack find.pcworld.com/46432
Holy crap thank you so much zRock, I will definatley do that... now! EDIT: Stupid website! I have to pay to get the files. Does abyone know where I can find those files without buying them or have an account and can send them to me?
Well thats good to kow, I'll just stick to overclocking with Rivatuner. Well, unless the only game he plays is Doom III then he'll be better with the Radeon no matter what he does.
Your gonna get it now Z! No I'll live dudes, I wish I was a mod, no I'm just part of the hip news crew, it's all good. If I were you I'd be careful with the softmoding, it's really all about luck, some cards are fortunant enough to allow for the mod, others are stuck the way they are.
I read that thing about the videocard x800 pro changing to an XT is that overclocking in some way? can the stock fan that the card has already bear the new changes i mean like it won't overheat ? also how long would card last if you do that modification? I read article but im not sure im planning on buying an x800 pro so thats why I want to know any advice is appreciated guys
It's not exactly overclocking, it's unlocking the full potential of the card, however this will stress the card out so don't expect it to last much more than a year. As for overclocking, when you plan on doing a major overclock you'll want to replace the cooler if it's cheesy. Some cards come with beefed up coolers for this purpose. Don't buy a X800 Pro only because you hope it will be modded into a X800XT, this doesn't always hurt, voids any warrenty, and cripples the cards life span. Though it can be successful and help you out it's perfectly likely that something will go wrong if you're not lucky. As for becomming a staff member zRock the slots are currently full so you'll have to wait till Sniper or B need more positions filled. As we keep getting more people we may need more staff
with that soft mod, do you think it will last until, say, February of next year? My card is nearly brand new.
If you want you can do that "mod" or BIOS flash to the card. Personally I'd rather have you not do it, I don't like killing good equipment
yeah theres a risk after doing everything, even a benchmark might fry certain hardware. do at own risk
Yea, that would be pretty funny. But I think I will just stick to overclocking normally. I might do it if it left your clock and memory speeds alone but not with them being overclocked so severely.
Wait, I just got an idea. Unlock the pipelines then use Rivatuner to underclock the speeds. Would that work?
Underclock? Why? Don't buy a 6800 in hopes of getting more than you payed for, it's all luck whether your card will actually allow for this. Sometimes you can sometimes it doesn't work (for models supporting unlocking).
