netgear DG834G HELP

Hi, hope some one can help me, i have a netgear dg834g router which i cant get to work, i want to have main pc and laptop able to connect to internet at the same time, i connect router everything seems fine untill i go back to netgear to settings nothing seems to happen, it says on box 5 clicks i think netgear are fibbing this is driving me mad. i have had this for over 12 months i keep trying, what am i doing wrong?

you need to enter the routers web configurator (enter the routers default IP into you browsers address bar) and enter some settings specific to your computer & ISP (username, password and stuff like that

BTW: who is your ISP and do they provide net access staticly or dynamicly ?
 
thanks donkey. my isp is aol. i dont know what you mean by net access dynamicly or staticly sorry to be such a noob
 
what Firmware version is the router using ? (on a label on the bottom)

BTW: do you have everything you need ?
