hi i have been having a problem with my router since the start of this year where the router will only let me download stuff usually between 10 or 11 at night and will stop about 1 pm this is also effecting playing games online. has anyone got any ideas on what could be causing this problem and how could i fix it.
Sounds like it to me. If you have not set anything on purpose, your router is hardly going to know what time it is.... therefore it is much more likely to be your ISP.
probly could be but if the router was on its last legs would it be possible that thew router would do that coz in like 18 months i have killed the wireless part of it by downloads lost for like 3 weeks straight or would it also be possible that the length of my cable which is 15M be the cause?
I doubt very much a crippled router has a sence of time nor is it possible, me think, to set the router to slow or block traffic during different times of the day. If the router is slowly dying you will see performance drop throughout the day. The same goes for the length of the lead you are using. As far as my experience goes, 15 - 20m is really no problem for a network cable. Saying that, perhaps the grade of the cable is low but still, the problem would be constant and not according to the time of the day. As mentioned before, the throtteling of the network traffic really sounds like an ISP measure. Have you checked with them?
