Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my 2 system home network that is really frustrating. Up until a few days ago the network was running fine. Nothing was changed before they started this trouble.
I have 2 computers (Dell and Hp running Winxp and Winxp pro respectively) sharing a cable modem through ICS hooked up to a DLINK 604 router.
The 2 systems can network just fine when talking to each other, printer sharing, file sharing
etc. the problem comes in when I use the Net. when the main computer is the only one
turned on I'm great, throughput is a consistent 4500 kbps or better. But when I turn the
secondary computer on (or plug in the ethernet cable to the router) the throughput either
drops substantially (1000 kbsp or lower) or I get no throughput at all. At times, just pugging in the ethernet cable
or turning on the secondary computer will even knock the cable modem offline.
I have done all the usual, powering up the router, modem and computers. Checked that the
cards are working with no conflcts. And I have run the diagnostics on the modem with and
without the secondary computer hooked up.
This part is wierd, when I am getting no throughput, the modem does not recognize ANY
computer. But when the main comp is the only one hooked up it recognizes it.
Is my router failing? Am I just paranoid?
Thanks if you can help.
