New build help!

I haven't really been building for too long and i got a K8N sli motherboard from msi and want to add some OCz ram to it but want to know if that is a good brand to go with. Also if the platinum 2gb ram from them is any good.

I am also planning to buy:

floppy drive: Scythe YD-8V08-BK (Black) 18-in-1 USB 2.0 FDD & Card Reader Combo $29.99
monitor: CHIMEI CMV 946D Silver-Black 19" 2ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor $199.99
HDD: not sure yet, any suggestions? at least 250Gb
Processor: wanted to buy AMD FX-55 san diego but newegg doesnt have it right now.
Dvd-drive: not sure yet, any suggestions?

well personally i'd go for Corsair Value but Kington & Crucial have a good rep

Seagate are the most reliable but seagate took over Maxtor last year & seagate are just rebadging their own drives and putting a label saying Maxtor but i've also heard good things about WD and Samgung

Dvd-drive: not sure yet, any suggestions?

personally i've got an Asus DVD+/-RW and i'm more than happy with it

Do you got any suggestions for a good gaming processor seeing as to how i missed the awsome newegg deal on the amd fx-55 for $180 or so. I dont want anything over $200. thanks.

The FX-55 is an old CPU model, the last in the single-core line of FX processors was the FX-57. It then went to the FX-60 (Dual core Socket 939) and now there's the FX-62 (Dual core Socket AM2)

List exactly what you currently have and your budget for the rest of the system and we'll be able to suggest the remaining parts.

To be honest, instead of trying to blow the money on an uber-pricey CPU, go with a mid-range CPU and spend a little more on the video card. Games rely more on the video card than the CPU. I'm not saying go with a Sempron 2600, but instead of shelling out for an FX, you might go with an A64 4000+ or something else in the middle, and then go with a 7900GT. You might even consider an X2, but that's unnecessary for gaming.

Hard drive: Seagate, Western Digital, Samsung, Hitatchi...all good.

DVD: I like Pioneer. Their current DVD-RW drive, the 111D, is about $30 last time I checked the 'egg.

Good RAM brands:

-OCZ
-Crucial
-Patriot
-G.Skill
-Mushkin

OCZ's platinum has gotten pretty good marks from what I've read. If you're not planning to overclock, Kingston ValueRAM or Corsair's ValueSelect are your best bets.
