i built up a new comp with new motherboard and ram and the monitor doesnt turn on. the monitor is acer 19" tft al1916w and it needs a nvidia graphics card to display. everything sounds like it is powering up ok but the monitor light stays red and no picture.

any one know why it isnt turning on?

is it because i havent installed the graphics card on that new motherboard yet? - surely thought it would show the bios screen? no?

    any help appriecated!!!

put simply "yes" you do need a graphics card, it just depend on the particular BIOS, some monitors display something like "no input signal" but i do think its down to the lack of a graphics card

Its not totally clear on what you have installed so far. You should check, motherboard, CPU, RAM, graphics card are all installed properly to boot.

the graphics card is in but this is the 1st time iv used it on this new motherboard, and the mb doesnt have onboad graphics

it should at least show me the bios though, shouldnt it? because of the special type of monitor

I had this probelm once to and it was because my motherboard was touching the back of the case, however my moniter will say "input signal out of range" but every model varies.
