New desktop PC

    Hi all,

    I want to buy a new system for around €700,- and I would like to know if the following system is woth the amount or if you have any other thoughts about it. I will mainly use the machine for gaming

    These are the specs.:

    Internal memory(€115)
    Dane-Elec 1Gb Dual-Channel Kit, 2x512Mb PC2-4200

    Hard disk(€89)
    Maxtor*SATA II 250Gb 7200rpm 16Mb

    Video(€219)
    XFX GeForce 7600 GT eXTreme 256Mb, 2xDVI, PCI-E

    Processor(€189)
    Intel Pentium 4 630 3.0 GHz 800 MHz Socket 775, 2MB

    Mainboard(€97)
    Asus P5ND2-SLI, S775, nForce4, DDR2, GLAN, ATX


    I already have the case and a TFT monitor

    Why a Pentium 4? They're outclassed by the Athlon 64 CPUs and the new Conroe/Merom being launched by Intel. If you want it now, for gaming get an Athlon 64 3800ish. You'll need a new motherboard too.

    Nothing inheritly wrong with that, but for gaming, the current Pentiums aren't quite as good as the Athlon64's.

    Second thing: unless you have a native 24-pin (no adapters) power supply around 500W or higher from a company like Antec, Enermax or Fortron (among a few others), you'll need to invest in one.
