    hi mate,

Looking at the two systems ther isnt much between them both, i personally would go for the Dell, no specific reason really.

For five hundred pounds, have you not thought of building your own system?
Im sure if you had a look on Ebay and such you would be able to build a better system than is on offer in the two links, the only thing thatwould be expensive would be the TFT.

Ifyour break down all the components, and have a look around 500 pounds could go a long way, RAM MOBOS and CPUS are dirt cheap on Ebay...its worth considering.

What would the primary use of the system be?

I had a quick look on Ocuk at their pre built systems, and if you already have your OS then some of them are quite reasonable, (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/full_systems.html) but personally i would not buy either if i had 500 pound, id opt to build my own!! :)

Thanks. Well i'm starting University in October. So there would mainly be word processing, although i have my own website so there would need to be room for editing videos/pics. It is not going to be used for a gaming machine. THe problem with building my own is that i don't have time. How long do you reckon it would take?

    Well,

Buy the components, then put them together, if you had all the components there it would take about 90 minutes ( installing the operating system included).

If your gonna use the system for studying, and not for gaming then the two systems you found would have the advantage of having a 1-3 year warranty.
Have a look on ebay for prebuilt low cost systems ( some of which will have warrenties).

I suppose if i wanted a complete low cost pacage for studying on then one of the two systems you chose may benefit you, but personally i like building them. The money you save building your own system would have been more if you were going to use the system for gaming though, so maybe for less hassle and warranty purposes you should just stick with one of those packages you chose. :)

for what you need, 2.6 will be sufficiant for you.
i think like me addis just dosent like pre built machines from manufacturers whos customer support and cheap components sometimes suck?

There is no question but to get the Dell, it has a vastly superior CPU. The Comet one has a poor Celeron in it, Celerons are pretty bad. The Dell one wins hands down as the price is almost the same ;)

Dell, at least right now, uses Intel processors exclusively. AMD tends to offer better performance at a lower cost most of the time. However, with video editing, you are better off to stick with Intel. Since you are doing video editing, getting more hard drive space and upgrading your RAM to 1GB might be things you'll want to consider down the road.

as much as i hate to say it the dell is probably the better option, the CPU has a much bigger L2 Cache than the other one (1MB on the dell system, 256K on the acer system) and the acer one doesnt record dual layer dvd's might not be such a problem for you but its worth looking at an up-to-date writer drive.
www.rlsupplies.co.uk have some pre-built systems so do www.savastore.com and www.overclockers.co.uk maybe check them out and see what you can find

Yea the Sempron 3300 is based on an Athlon 64 core, without the 64 bit and less cache. Nevertheless it would be better for gaming or at least as good as the Intel one.

I'd recommend that over the other 2.
