new grafix card

    Im looking to upgrade my grafix card mainly so i can run newer games above the lower settings only got about £100 to spend.Ive got an old time case im running with no extra cooling apart from psu and cpu fan.Your probably saying it should have melted by now but had no crashes or malfunctions in the last year since i put it together advice needed.Im running as below

    asus A7N8X-X
    NVIDIA Geforce FX 5500
    ATHLON XP 2500+ (barton)
    512mb ddr 400 (not branded)

    Advice on new psu case and cooling welcome but mainly grafix card
    Card has to have tv out so i can beem it down to the tv
     
  2. Since I have almost the smae motherbaord, i'm pretty sure you have an AGP slot. you wont be able to get a much better card for such a small price. I suggest to save up your money, becuase good graphics cards cost alot of money.

    I don't know how things are priced in the UK, but you may get away with a GeForce 6600 or even an ATi X800.
    Alternatively, an ATi 9800 Pro/XT will play most current games atleast on medium settings and they play the older games extremely well. The cards are older technology but perform well enough.

    if you have better than stock cooling on that barton
    you should be able to overclock it to 3200+ speeds without any voltage increases.

    this means setting the processor's FSB to 400mhz. there should be little if any heat increase.

    Yes as long as your RAM is PC3200 (DDR400) then you should be able to overclock your 2500.

    As for your graphics card, you can get an X800 GTO AGP card, it might be a little bottlenecked by your CPU though, so if you want you can get something cheaper.
