Hi there, I'm hoping someone can help me with this as it's causing me major stress!! I've just bought an Asus motherboard and Intel P4 CPU but for some reason they won't boot (ie they won't even fire the monitor up). I've got a funny feeling that they're not compatible but I could do with someone telling me for sure. The CPU code is SL7NA and has a Prescott core. The Motherboard code is P4S533-MX. I know this has a North/South bridge chipset, is this the reason that they aren't working or am I barking up the wrong tree? I've checked all of the obvious stuff like jumper settings and that everything is plugged in correctly but frankly, I'm at a loss. Hope someone can help Cheers, Steve
What power supply are you using? Have you tried powering up the motherboard on a flat, non-conductive surface? (this eliminates one of the mounting studs---you did install these---isn't shorting something it shouldn't)
both of these are new/ untested?? does it give any beep codes?? how about this, turn off the power supply or unplug it, watching the keyboard lites (numlock, capslock, scrolllock) push the power supply button, did they blink on and off?? turn the power supply back on, watching the lites again, push the power button, did the lites turn on or blink??
I have an inkling that the CPU isn't compatible with the motherboard due to it being a prescott core chip. In addition to that, not benig able to find the motherboard on the ASUS website doesn't help much either. You may want to email ASUS and see what they have to say on the matter. P.S - Are you using DDR and PC RAM together or just one type?
Yeah, I've come to the conclusion that the motherboard doesn't have prescott support as I can't see anywhere that the M/B is advertised that it has this feature. Also the M/B doesn't have HT support either whereas the chip does. It's not much for a prescott/HT M/B so I think I'll just buy another M/B and hope for the best. Thanks for all your replies anyway. Always check if things are supported before you buy. what motherboard/processor did you buy. motherboard vendor/model? cpu?? 3.0ghz pentium 4 prescott with ht? etc..
