I just bought a new motherboard, an Asus P4G800-V. Everything works great, except when I tried to install my printer. I can install, but cannot print. OS is Win XP Pro. Looking at Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> device manager -> Ports, only the COM1 is shown. I've tried getting my PC to automatically scan to detect the port/hardware, no luck. I'm wondering if my mobo is defective, or if I just haven't installed some driver or other to get the LPT port functional. Any thoughts? PS. Printer worked fine last week on my last PC, and the drivers I'm using now are straight from XP. (Not that it matters, if I can't see the LPT port to begin with...) Thanks, Mike
Let me try to understand. XP installs your printer but you can't print or it's not even detected in the first place ? For the former, try using drivers from the company itself, not the ones XP installs. For the latter, make sure the port is enabled in the bios.
Thanks, you guys rock! It wasn't enabled in BIOS. BTW, in answer to harrack's question... XP didn't install the printer automatically, I had to manually do it. It didn't detect either the LPT port or the printer.
