I'm Going to but a new 19" TFT monitor, have been looking around some say 700:1 - 800:1 500:1 etc just wondering if lower/higher was better

also conisdering buying 2 with dual graphics card - i Know matrox are the kiddies but can anyone recommend a good dual head card i think maybe radeon do some and maybe a good 19" mon

been looking at the formac

Formac Gallery Xtreme 1900 19" TFT 8ms 800:1 (1280x1024) - the only thing that puts me off is i dont think its wall mountable

have seen an good deal on a samsumg on ebuyer but only has 500:1 - thats why i was wondering?

any advice appreciated

From what I've read, the 800:1, 500:1 is the contrast ratio, and the higher the better. However, I wouldn't buy any display without seeing one in action for myself.

From the displays I've seen, Samsung is very good, but I haven't seen any Formac, nor heard of them before. Numbers are helpful, but given you're going to probably have the displays for a while and the quality can be subjective to the user, make a point to check out the displays you're looking at. What I might like may not be something you like.

What are you looking to do with your display? Games? Photo editing? CAD?

Thanks, worked out the number thing higher the better
Going to be doing graphic desigh so from what i've read formac seems to be the boy

thanks for your reply big B

I agree with Big B, its far more important to see the monitor in action if you can, the difference between screens is far bigger than CRT's used to be.

I can recommend this BenQ model, I've got the 17" version and for the money its amazing. Clear and fast. £150 for a 19" TFT isn't bad either :-

ebuyer.com - BenQ FP91G+

Excellent find. I didn't realise TFTs have fallen in price that much. Need to keep up with times...

Bear in mind that the 550:1 contrast ratio isnt as good as some, although for CAD work, games and normal Windows stuff its perfectly good. You may find that if you watch a lot of movies on your PC the black areas might not be as black as you want. For me its not a problem but just thought i'd let you know.

cheers guys, stumped for the formac - the new place i work for have found these to be ... shall we say the b0ll0cks

anyway - thanks guys
