Im trying catch up on the progress of cpus, chipsets etc but keep getting lost (probably cos ive got 9 tabs open in firefox at the mo!) Im sticking to intel for now because I always did follow intel more closely than AMD.

I kind of turned my computer off for two years when the prescott was just coming out. The last computer I built was a "money no object" computer with a prescott which I never had time to play with :(

Im only looking at socket 478 at the moment.

Anyway, P4c. Did this have the option of 1mb L2 cache or was it just 512kb? What about HT, I think this was just on the 3ghz P4c, am I right?
I cant remember a P4d, was there one? Everytime I google P4d I get these new dual core jobbies which ive not looked into yet.

Prescott (was this the P4e?) Were all presscots with a 1mb L2 cache and a 533 and 800 fsb? Did they all have a 31 stage pipeline?

Everything after this is brand spanking new to me.
    Presscot 2m; simply a 64bit presscot with 2mb L2 cache?

Whats the difference between the presscot 2m and the cedar mill?

Ive actually found answers to most of my questions straight after I posted my first post.

So im "solved" :) I was looking at 775 processors thinking they were 478
Bloody hell all these 5x5/5x9 5xOJ names are confusing!

I dont get the presscot 478 processors.

I thought the PrescottA was the 533mhz fsb and PrescottE was the 800mhz FSB. Or was the difference down to the fact that the PrescottA didnt have HT but the PrescottE did?but the intel page is confusing....
    Filter Summary

Does anyone know which were the PrescottA and PrescottE?

    Just get a Pentium 4 3Ghz prescott, there 1mb L2 catch and 800Mhz FSB.
I have never heard of PrescottA or E :s, i thought E stands for prescott eg, Pentium 4 E. There is no Pentium 4's for Skt 478 that are 2mb lt catch or 64 bit i belive. As far as i know, all prescotts have HT and even some of the Northwoods did.

I dont want to buy one, I just want to know the difference. The skt478 prescotts are confusing. You can get a skt478 with 2mb cache, albeit a level 3 cache. It came out before the prescott and was supposed to compete with the AMD 64, but no there wasnt EM64T with skt478.

The A and the E's were used to differentiate between the Pentium 4 B's and C's that were in use with the Northwood core. The B and C's were Northwood with 533MHz and 800MHz FSB's, respectively. The A's and E's were Prescott with 533MHz and 800MHz FSB's, respectively.

Thanks BigB. I didnt even know they did a 533mhz Prescott, I take it the Prescott A came out a while after the Prescott E.

My list of processors is nearly fininshed!

I think that's right, but I don't remember off the top of my head.
