Have build a new system using an ASUS P4S800D-X MOBO and a celeron D 345 3.06 Ghz CPU but system does not even boot, the LED on the mainboard light up and the hardisk activity led on the case remains on, the green led light on the monitor keeps blinking. When I change the CPU to an older 1.6 intel Pentium everything works fine. I had taken back the CPU to be checked and been told that it's fine. Does anybody knows if there is an incompatibility issue with this asus MOB and CPU? Haver upgraded the Bios to the latest version 1005

Asus says it supports the Celeron D 345 with BIOS release 1002 or later.

What power supply do you have? Make and model, please.

That's kinda what I thought. The power supply is a generic brand. While the Celeron isn't Intel's powerhouse, they are derivatives of the Pentiums, which have higher power requirements than previous Pentium 4's. While you don't need to spend $200 on a power supply, what you have likely isn't enough to power your rig with the newer processor. I suggest this unit. It has plenty of amperage where it counts (the 12V rails), is inexpensive, and comes from a good company.
