hi, basically my old set up consisted of a USR modem router and running from a free ethernet port on that was a USR wireless router which was then connecting to a USR USBwireless dongle on my computer upstairs.

Due to recent problems with my USR modem router I have bought a wireless modem/ router (Netgear) and set up wireless on that. The idea was that my USR wireless router would become redundant or that I would just maybe bridge it to improve the signal if I ever need to in the future.

So when I plugged in my Netgear I set everything up and it works fine on the wired computers. I set up wireless and disconnected my old modem router.

I then went upstairs to my other computer and went into the wireless network manager (the software that came with my USR USBdongle.) I clicked scan and it showed the wireless network of my Netgear. I clicked connect and it was showing a good signal strength.

Whenever I go into a web browser it doesn't load anything..... I asked a mate what it might be and he said to check that it's not set to either G or B connection as one maybe only recieve B signals.

I checked in the Router setup and it said that the wireless signal was sending G & B signals.

    Any way to rectify this?

    cheers

What do you mean by doesn't load anything? Do you get a server timed out error, or a host address unresolvable?

The signal issue is almost certainly not the problem, you've probably got a misconfigured setting in the wireless options. Make sure that the security settings are correct (WEP or WPA). Please post any errors you get.

basically i get that message where it says "cannot display page" and then has a list of things to try ie. reload the page etc.

I have removed all encryption to see if this is the problem but nothing seems to work.

Also when I scan the area it picks up several netoworks (some of which are encrypted) and also (i think) my USB reciever that is plugged into the computer I am scanning from. It is called "boxer" and also displays a little key representing encryption but does not have encryption turned on when I go into the wireless manager......

basically it will pick up the signal and connect but then does not seem to send/ recieve any data when I try to load a web page - even my homepage. I have double checked all of the channels and made sure that they are on different channels (at least 5 apart from the signals I find when I do a scan - I read somewhere that sometimes the channels can intefere.)

Encryption is all checked and off as far as I am concerned but I cannot seem to work out the problem
