I have a continueing bootup problem. Sometimes when I press the power button to boot the fans start to spin up and then everything switches off other times the fans stay on and it starts try and boot but never gets as far as a boot beep. Before I can try again I have to wait until the red PWR-LEAD on the bottom of the board goes out and unplug and reconnect the power cable. Just waiting and repressing the power button will not reboot. I believe it is a motherboard problem rather than anything else as I have swapped everything else in and out. It has got steadily worse and now refuses to play. When it did work the second red light on the board (top right hand corner) comes on does anyone know what this light signifies?
To understand what that light indicates you'll have to tell me your mobo model # and/or read the manual! Have you tested the PSU in another computer? Also check the board carefully for any physical damage to capacitors and any other component!
Was it always like this? Or did you try overclocking it for a while? If you can, re-set the BIOS. You'll find the steps in your manual. It involves pulling out a jumper and putting that jumper on a connector for a few seconds, then pulling it out and placing it back again in its original position. This will most probably clear up your problem if your MOBO is 100% okay.
i've had this problem as well m8 you might find it your ram as you computer will not boot sor you could try reseating this. and clearing the cmos is a gd idea as it states in the post above. Also when u av been alterating your computer inside hav u always earthed yourself to make sure you haven't statisised any on the computers hardware as this can have the same effect. To me if its not whats already bin listed above it your mobo. u cud try running it ou side of the case incase its shortng to it. i hope this helps Dave
Nope I haven't been overclocking, it's just been getting worse and worse in terms of the odds of booting. I have been doing all the swapping in and out of things without luck, sometimes it goes and other times it doesn't. As said at the begining I am hoping someone else has the same board and can explain the significance of the onboard red LEDs as to whether they can give a clue as to the cause of the problem
Without knowing what else you have and had in that box, it's a little hard to say that, yeah, the motherboard's at fault. Why don't you list your hardware specs and see if we can spot anything out of the ordinary. In the meantime, I'd try clearing CMOS and double-checking your connections.
Just another idea - your symptoms approximate a problem I had with a Jetway board. Try using a PCI-based video card, and not the AGP type. Just try it for me and see what happens.
The problem is that it has gradually got worse rather than simply occurred. I have tried various combination of video card AGP/PCI different RAM sticks in different slots, clearing the CMOS etc, some times it appears a combination has worked then the problem re-appears and I can rebuild with one of the earlier combinations and that will work again. Pelvis, the board is an
Sorry finger trouble, let me continue.... Pelvis the board is an XFX NF24-ALH, I have read the manual and there is no reference to the LEDs, which is why I am posting. Thanks John
In that case, the only thing I can think of is motherboard replacement - and maybe its time anyway.... Ouch.
