    Hi There,

I am having an issue. I have motherboard which has sound and display on it. I added a Creative Audigy Sound Card but I do not hear any sound. When I checked in System Devices it shows Sound Audigy without any exclamation marks and windows XP automatically installs drivers. There were many things in Audio devices like unimodem half duplex audio device, audio codec, video codec etc. But I did not hear any sound. When I checked in audio and video devices in control panel...in playback and recording devices it showed me "modem line#4 or something like that". I checked google and uninstalled the modem, and all the devices (including the codecs) and at the end there was nothing in audio devices. I even uninstalled modem. I disabled onboard sound from bios(It said sound in integrated peripherals, i turned it off) When i started my comp it asked me to install my internal modem(Conextant). I did not install as i thought that because of modem, creative is not becoming the default sound card. But when I saw it showed only sound Audigy in audio devices. It did not take up audio codecs and other options. And in Sound and audio devices, it stilled showed no audio hardware. I tried installing drivers from CD but no use. I even checked the audio device is on automatic in the services. Can anyone please help me.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards

    Amit

    Lets start from the beginning,
    1. Insert your sound card into PCI slot...
    2. Turn on your Computer, go into your BIOS and Turn off your Oboard Sound.
    3. Hook the speaker wires into your PCI Sound Card...(If 2 or 2.1 then in the front speakers other wise u will be using full 5.1 ch output).
    4. If you look [link=http://support.microsoft.com/kb/295318]on Microsofts Website[/link], you will find that their list doesnt contains drivers for your card.
    5. Check the model of soundcard you have nd install the latest drivers from their manufacturers website.
    6. Install it and restart your computer, nd it will definately work unless u've your sound muted in the Sound Device.

[ot]If you think that its clashing with your Modem which i doubt, then remove your Modem from the PCI slot, jst to make sure.....[/ot]

Thanks for your reply Karanislove but i just missed one small thing. During my
troubleshooting what i found was the slider of volume in audio and sound devices was low when i increased it to full, automatically it took sound card instead of playback devices which was initially showing modem line#4. It played shutdown music but when i restarted it said no audio device and did not even show modem line#4. So this shows sound card is properly placed in PCI slot. But there is something that is not allowing it to be a playback device. Can we in anyway specify that Sound Audigy is default playback device (even if it doesnot shows in sound and audio device). And why it does not shows me any other devices like joystick controller or audio codecs after uninstalling like it was doing previously. That would be the reason it is not playing any sound???

Download the latest drivers from [link=http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/]here[/link]...nd see if that solves the issue!
Also download the [link=http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/AllDownloads.aspx?displang=en&qstechnology=]WMP Codecs pack[/link] to make sure that it isnt a problem with the codecs.
