Hey everyone, I recently got some new parts for a computer and am having some issues with my display. I had everything put together initially and things were working out just fine. In the middle of vista installing, I went to do something else. I came back to find that the computer was spontaneously turning on and then shutting down after about 3 seconds, then repeating the cycle. I determined that there must have been a short somewhere, although it didn't necessarily make sense to me how that would have happened since I didn't do anything to the functioning system. During this time when it was turning on and off, there was no display on the monitor. I took everything apart and put everything back together. The power stays on now, but there is no display going to the monitor, which I know functions. Here are some of the things I am considering: 1. Somehow while reassembling stuff I may have had some static discharge that messed up either the motherboard or videocard. This I think is less likely as I was my normal careful self. But still possible I suppose. If that's the case, is there a way I can figure things out without buying new hardware to use to test the stuff I have? I don't have another motherboard or video card sitting around. 2. When the computer spontaneously shut off, maybe BIOS was corrupted? Again, don't know how to test this theory exactly. 3. When things were working, I had two different power connectors connected from my PSU to the motherboard. I can recreate the problem of spontaneous shutting off by keeping both connected. If I remove one, I get where I am at now. The fans and everything work, LEDs on the motherboard turn on, but no display. I don't think my PSU doesn't have enough power, however. Maybe something to do with this? 4. Before taking things apart, I thought maybe the heatsink wasnt connected well enough and the CPU was overheating. I looked. It's connected pretty well and everything "stays on" at present, but there is no display. Thanks, guys.
