I have reinstalled WindowME on an older Gateway computer. It had WindowsME on it befor and was working to a degree but; so many glitches and lockups, I decided to just start over and reinstall everything. Well, all is working fine except that I can not get the sound to work. In going to Device Manager->Sound ,vidio and game controllers->Creative SB Live Series (WDM) and then clicking on "Properties" under the General Tab it says that the device is working properly; and , under the Driver tab, it says "Creative SB Live Series (WDM). When I click on "update Driver" it tells me I have the latest one. However, I still have no sound from the speakers. any suggestions?Thanks, Rodney
Is the soundcard built into the motherboard or is it a PCI soundcard? What model Gateway do you have? Also, id ditch Windows Millennium, especially if you are going to use it on the net. As Windows Me came with the PC you might be better of with Windows 2000 instead of XP. It usually goes for about £50 on ebay.
It is a seperate sound card (Sound Blaster Live Model CT4870) in a PCI slot. Yes I've checked all connections, volume settings etc. An Athlon chip, 512 Megs of memory.
Then id start from the beginning. Remove the card, boot into windows uninstall the drivers. Reboot, then switch it off. Put the card back in, install the drivers from the cd that came with the card. Short of the card being damaged not too much can go wrong with installing soundcards. What happens when you try and play an .mp3 or something in WMP? WMP will usally pop a box up saying there is an issue with your soundcard if windows has a problem with a driver. Like megamaced said sometimes it can be the windows volume or in our case the other day a mute button on the keyboard!
