Not quiet the overclock of the century!

Well, my first attempt at overclocking has been a 'success' of sorts. I've gained a whole 0.1 GHz on my 2GHz Athlon XP 2400!

I raised the Frequency Voltage Control in BIOS, from 133MHz to 134MHz. I did try 'one at a time' MHz increases, but the PC just froze-up at the XP splash screen. Is there something else I should be tweaking in BIOS?

well, i don't know about dangerous, i think you can bump up the CPU core voltage, to achieve greater stability, however, you should be able to just set the CPU to it original Mhz and multiplier of a previously OC'd CPU and it'll usually work fine, i think, although the last OC i did was on an old 486 and i made a CPU cooler and put the system in a chest freezer, i figured, that'll keep it cool

don't raise the voltage too high, or you risk frying your CPU

BTW: i think you should only try to OC your CPU by about 10 - 20% of the original clock speed:unsure:

Edit: increase the core voltage by 0.1 volts at a time until the system is stable
 
I can increase the CPU clock in BIOS (and have done, from 133 MHz to 134MHz) However, any increase over 134 MHz results in lockup of the XP splash screen.

I wanted to try and adjust the voltage in BIOS, but can't find any option listed. Is this what's called 'locked', maybe?
 
That locked could be either the multiplier or the vcore. Your options are limited by your motherboard as the multiplier is unlockable with a pencil on these chips i believe.
With the XP 2400+ (I think thoroughbred) I had with the old ASUS a7v8x-x I had I was able to adjust the FSB, vcore, and multiplier. Really one of the best over clocking boards I've owned. I was able to get that cpu to 2.2 stable, that's about it. Bumping up the multiplier, vcore and adjusting the FSB a bit ( I think I actually bumped it down to make my multiplier greater and save my ram) I got it up to 2.3ish unstable.
This was all a learning experience for me though, as I've always been more a self learner type of person than read what others have done - which is also one of the more costly ways to learn things lol :doh:
