well i've cracked and decided i need a laptop for school. I'll be doing some programming, lots of word processing, maybe a little graphical editing, some minor gaming, maybe. So i don't want to spend much over $800 so anything round that are below, i know i can't get much but it will mostly be a digitized type writer. anyways i've found 2 that i think wouldn't be bad,Acer AS3004WLCi AMD Mobile Sempron 15.4" Wide XGA SiS Mirage 2 NoteBook - Retail at Newegg.com ABS MAYHEM F-15 R35 AMD Turion 64 15.4" Wide XGA SiS Mirage 2 NoteBook - Retail at Newegg.com did i mention i have a obsession with AMD, anyways doing some minor upgrades like memory, wouldn't count towards overall price. thanks in advance for any advice
Both of those have Pros and Cons, the Sempron one (cheaper) has more RAM, so the onboard graphics can use more of it, meaning better/faster gaming, graphics editing and programming. It also has a larger hard disk, but this might not make any difference if you are only word processing and the occasional game. On the downside though that laptop is heavier, and the processor isn't as good. The more expensive laptop only has 256mb of RAM, which could (and probably will) slow it down a lot, especially with it having shared graphics. If you can afford the more expensive laptop AND then get another 256/512mb of RAM fairly soon after, it may turn out to be really good. But if not, then I'd go for the cheaper one as it has more ram, bigger hard drive and the same onboard graphics as the other one (which still won't be brilliant, infact they're probably crap).
yes most likely but the one has a way sweeter processor, all that aside if you have any other suggestions of nice notebooks in my price range that would be sweet to
I've only had a quick look, but this looks alright. Widescreen (15.4"), ATi Radeon Xpress 200M Chipset, AMD Mobile Athlon 64 Processor 3400+ 2.2 GHz etc. Still it wouldn't be brilliant at graphics, but it would be better than an SiS Mirage 2 or whatever.
I have an Acer Aspire 3023 WMLi, its a Sempron 3000 with ATi mobility X700. Its certainly not bad, but if I were you I'd get noe with integrated graphics as a dedicated unit will just eat up battery life.
