If you want a good free firewall, you could always use Ashampoo Firewall (the free one). It is much better than the firewall of XP.

On any firewall you install, afterwards go to Gibsons research and do a shields UP test .. Make sure to do Both port tests. If it comes back in stealth mode on both then you have a keeper, If not then Dump it..

    - it locked most of my programs even when disabled which eventually led to a format of my pc, im supprised it's not a common known issue. oh and after the format i couldnt re-activate my norton account and i think i had to phone up to activate my xp

I wasn't even aware that Nvidia made a firewall.

I'm currently using Comodo as others have recommended. However, the logging can be a real CPU killer. I turned off logging of all blocked packets, and log only those I want to track. My IPCop box does most of the filtering anyways.
