Ok several months ago I started to notice that as I ran a program, my page file and memory would go up but would stay up after the program was ended. The worst is with graphic intensive programs such as games, a game editor, and other similar processes.

When you first load in its fine, but as you play a while and new maps load or a lot of effects happen, it knocks down my FPS and my memory shoots through the roof and then I lag. If I look at my memory usage it will be through the roof and my entire system lags even after the program ends and everything goes slow until I reboot and that tends to fix the issue until I try again. Even if I stop running the program and close out everything on my PC, the Memory is still running at about 80%... and I got 2 gigs of DDR2 RAM.

I thought to myself, no big deal... it must be an issue with my RAM and I have an aging system so I would just replace it.

Replacing the RAM did no good. Tried a friends RAM that I know works perfectly and it still did it. So I got a brand new mobo, CPU to go with my new RAM. I thought this must be it!

    Nope, still having the issue.

So now I am really confused. Could it be my video card? My Hard Drive? What could it be?!? I lean towards the video card next but fail to see how that would crank up my memory like that and not let it flush without a reboot. Please help before I sink more money into my issue.

    Thanks!

What are your system specs and OS?

Are you using an nvidia card?

    Hi mate,

Have you got any memory intensive programs running in teh background or maybe and spyware your unaware of??? Maybe formating your hardrive and reinstallnig windows might be an idea before spending any more money?? there is a program called TUFF test that that you can boot off that checks your hardware maybe that could be worth a try as well.

    Cheers Dave:cool:

I have reformated the PC several times as well and still have the same issue from the get go.

One thing I have heard recently is that when some hard drives go bad, that they can actually dump your page file back into the RAM and bring your system to a crawl. I am exploring more of this possibility and a new HD is a lot cheaper than a new video card... though I would love an excuss to get a new Video Card. :D

    My specs would be...
    AMD X2 5600
    BFG 6800 GT
    2gig DDR2 RAM
    ASUS M2N-SLI mobo
    Sound Blaster Soundcard
    WD Raptor HD

haha i know the feeling about Gfx cards i need an excuse to lol, why dont you try increasing the page file size?? its should be 1.5x the size of your RAM

    hope it helps Dave

Page file is maxed out. I have a new HD on the way so I will keep you all posted with what happens.
