hey there. i have come back with another issue. I have an asus p5wdg2 ws proffesional motherboard. My vga card came today and when starting to install all of the components i just don't know where on the motherboard should i connect the optical drives. i have a dvdrw combo and a dvd reader. also i have a 160gb seagate ata hdd. the motherboard has just one primary ide connector where i put in my ide hdd cable. What can i do? i have a cable for the optical drives but i dont know where to put it on the mobo.it may sound silly this question but i havent upgraded in 3 years and some things seam strange to me. thx in advance

i guess u cannot use ur dvd reader...U wil have to use only ur HDD and DVD combo.. other wise u have one more option left... u can get an IDE to SATA converter... therefore this converts ur HDD(IDE) to SATA.. so that u can use both DVD reader and COMBO... I am not sure abt the performance variation incase if u convert ur IDE hdd to SATA...people say that that transfer rate is increased after converting their IDE hdd to SATA... but i Dont think it does..if i am not wrong.. so pls check it out...

ah, you have a nice board there. Anyhoo, heard of an IDE controller card? never tried one myself, but you can get them in PCI for definite. I see your board also has PCIX slots, mayB you can get controller cards in that form which may be faster, but never heard of a SATA - IDE converter thing. My advice is a controller card

SATA to IDE converters have been around for a few years. Initially, they did have some performance degredation, but now, I don't think it's an issue. You may want a controller card, as you will probably find them cheaper than one, let alone 2 SATA/IDE converters.
