Hi everybody! I've got this one weird problem. Suddently Outlook Express wouldn't start. No error messages, no nothing. I tried to run it directly and through shortcuts, but no luck - it just swaps the mouse pointer to the sand-clock for a second and that's it. What could be the problem? btw: the system had a sudden crashdown - ATL.dll is missing/corrupt and MSOffice tries to reinstall itself all the time. registry's FUBAR? OS's FUBAR? thanks!
how long ago was this crash ? If it was within 5 days then just do a system restore.. If it is over 5 days then you might want to do a recovery. It sounds like you have more than just one problem. You also could just reinstall OE ...
I found some suggestions on how to get the ATL.dll fixed. I'll try them out and put a post here upon a successfull outcome. Thanks for the advice, Ghostman 1, but I really, let's say - don't like - system restore and/or anything alike. It's just that it has proven itself to be completely useless and even harmful every time I gave it a chance. And about that "reinstalling OE"... has anybody tried to run the Windows Internet Explorer 6 installation package with the switch /Q (keeps quiet and does it's job :chk: aka no check whether there's a newer version already installed). I've seen some proportionally different experiences - for one guy everything worked just great, but another one couldn't boot his PC back in any mode.
the problem's deep. not only that OE doesn't start, the Windows Explorer has it's menu bar (File, Edit, View etc) missing (IE has the same thing too) + computer management console wouldn't start, because the snap-in couldn't be initialized (no Disk defrag and everything else). I can't install or properly uninstall anything. It's like windows "just exists" on this computer for the sole purpose of being installed. Tried already to expand files. Didn't work. I would've liked to format the hell out of that PC, but I had to send it to a service, since it's a office computer and I don't have any sys CDs for it.
