Hi, I'm thinking of overclocking my 6800GT to Ultra specs, I have a roomy case, 480 Watt power supply and I replaced the stock VGA cooler with an Zalman VF700-cu. Will that be enough precaution by means of not messing up my card, andy suggestions, I'm doing this for the first time. Thanks
That's a good cooler, since it isn't a massive oc you should be okay. Can't exactly say you'd need it but good luck anyway.
I'm waiting for my ASUS Vento 3600 (someone called it Darth Vader's Coffe Machine) to be delivered, that particular case has two big air intakes at the front, and a 12cm cooling fan mounted in the rear. -> See pictures here <- It's also got a cooler on the side right on top of my CPU, although I don't think that's of any importance regarding your answer. I don't have any real temperature measuring equipment in my computer except the enviromental temparature is 33 degrees according to my Nvidia control panel.
Cool case, more than adequate cooling too. You'll be fine with that oc I imagine. Only minor prob I can see with that case (not regarding the topic) is I'll bet it may get a little annoying having to open that hatch everytime you want to use the drives. It's sort of that way for me, except mine opens to the side, not upward. Anyway, 33 degrees is great and I say go for the oc.
its pretty easy to overclock it, even past ultra specs, because the ultra is only a few fps stronger in games and in 3Dmarks. mine are over. just watch out because the 6800GTs are known for overheating, especially the eVGA models... such as mine... damn it
