Overclocking Noob Here

I'm pretty much a total noob when it comes to overclocking. I tried to read into it a bit before but the information wasnt really helpful and I just gave up.
I read the sticky at the top of this forum already.
I've downloaded Coolbits for my Nvidia 7300 GT. I've tested some setting already but I just had a question about video card overclocking. My card started at 350MHz core and 261MHz Memory. I'm up to 370/271 respectively now. Should the Memory be scaling along with the Core at all? I cant seem to go past 271 with the memory but I'm sure I could boost the core up more. Would this have a negative impact to my card?

As for CPU overclocking. There doesnt seem to be a whole lot of info in the sticky thread, if so I must have overlooked it. I have a AMD Athlon XP 64 3200+ at the moment. How would I go about overclocking it to give myself more performance? If someone could link me a tutorial thread to that I would be thankful.

I wouldnt worry about the fact that your RAM, percentage wise, isnt going to be able to overclock as high as your gpu. Im assuming you can adjust the components separately... just go with what works.
Make sure you either test the overclocks thoroughly or get an overclock you think is its max then knock it back a little.


As for the rest of the system.... The reason you might find it difficult to find good info is because overclocking is one of those simple things which is really difficult to explain briefly! Especially when theres a spanner in the works like an athlon 64. The usual setup of a memory controller on the northbridge doesnt apply with the athlon 64s, so when your increasing your FSB it actually turns out your not because it doesnt have a fsb.


I'll try and put some sort of guide together on a PC I can use for a longer period (this is someones workstation, I hi-jack it because its the only PC with the net! Its an email PC really)

The key to getting a good overclock is to fully understand the changes your making to the system as you up the bus speeds.
