Overclocking...

Is it possible to overclock the CPU of a pre-made computer?
Cos I know you can if you build it yourself (don't know how to but still)
If it is possible, how do i do it and by how much? (I have an Intel Celeron D CPU at 3.46GHz)

Yes i think you can overclock a pre-made computer but i think you will void the warranty of your computer . I suggest you check your manufacturers warranty first, your CPU is at 3.4GHz why you want to go higher ? is it worth overclocking the CPU ?

Overclocking is free if you do it yourself, i think you should read about how to overclock don't attempt to do any overclocking untill your 100% confident that you could do it correctly.

If it has a clock, it can be overclocked.

Now, typically, pre-built systems offer little to nothing in the way of overclocking options via BIOS. However, [google]SoftFSB[/google] is a way of getting around this, albeit in a limited fashion.

Celeron D's are based off either Prescott or Cedar Mill cores, which are rather toasty to begin with, so keep an eye on your temps if you do. Some pre-built systems don't do a whole lot in the cooling department and may be strained with the stock speeds. Overclocking will only add to the heat output, especially with a hot running CPU to begin with.
Core Temp Beta or Speed Fan can monitor these temps.
 
yeah, I believe you can overclock any computer, custom or premade. But you said that you are at 3.46Ghz, so I don't see a reason for doing it unless you are just bored and want something to do.
 
I would have to disagree about pre-made computers, None of the ones I have ever worked on will let you overclock them. Dell/HP/Compaq/eManchine/IBM
Won't let you into there Bio's to Overclock them. The Only one that would let me Overclock it was a Systemax PC. And trying to use SoftFSB, Will not work
IF you are a NEWBIE....
