partition for ext hdd

i just bought a new ext hdd,i wanted to create partition for the ext hdd,after i plug into my pc but i cant c anydrive in the pc..so what do i need to do to solve dis problem..or any other way to create partition?

by default Windoze doesn't see / recognise new HDDs connected to it (i assume your using XP SP2) what you need to do is make the admin tools visible, you can either do this by right clicking the taskbar and selecting properties, and look at all tabs on that window, you are looking for "view Admin tools" or something like that, or i think you can access it from Control Panel, but, the icon could be hidden & i can't remember how to show it

BTW: this is vague, because i have never used vista & haven't used XP for years

Just to lead on with what Donkey was saying I just wondered whether the drive showed up in Disk Management or in Device Manager and what model of drive do you have?

i'm using xp sp2,but i didnt c get"all tab"in the properties....any way to solve dis problem....i didnt c anything in disk management also......:doh:

i'll try to explain more clearly, right click taskbar & select properties

you will then see this window

click start menu, and there is a white scroll box, scroll down to something like "view amin tools click checkbox then ok / apply

now the admin tools are visible on start menu
