I am having a really strange issue and hope there is someone that may be able to shed some light.

Not quite a year ago, I was having problems with my PC randomly shutting down on me. Each time it would cut off, the only way I can get it back up would be to flip the rocker switch on the power supply to off, unplug the power cord, plug in a different power cord and flip the rocker witch back on, then and only then, would it boot up. If I didn’t do all this, all the PC would do is power up, but not POST. A friend of mine had recommended running an app called Prime95. This app has a stress test that he wanted me to run. My PC would cut off every time so I was never able to get any sort of report or error.

I took out all memory and would re-run the Prime95 testing each stick separately. Well the test passed every time when only using a single stick. So I put both sticks back in a tested again and it passed! So I left it alone figuring maybe the memory contacts were just dusty. My PC ran fan since (again, not quite a year). Since this started happening again, and the memory passed last time, I tried replacing the power supply. However, it is still shutting off on me.

Not sure what is occurring when it shuts off on its own, but I can duplicate the issue by running some sort of scan, i.e. prime95, spy ware or anti virus scans, etc.

I was playing poker online the other might and it shut off on me twice inside of 20 min. so I know its not an overheating issue.

If easier, feel free to IM me and I can quickly answer questions.

No, I haven't. Out of curiosity, if its the BIOS battery, then why only shut down when performing some kind of scan?
