i've seen these problems posted all over the web but have yet to find a solution that works for me.
when playing mpeg's, avi's or almost another video file i get a green screen with windows media player. i've tried playing back the same files with divx player and with intervideo windvd6.
i'm sure it can't be the files all the time cause they will play in windvd, but recent;y files won;t even play in that.
it seems like i have the latest downloads for all the players, i'm using wmp10 and the latest divx player i think 5.2.1.
help cause i can't watch anything on my pc.
this occurs with about 85% of files.

    thanks for your time.

I would download off the net the "All-In-One Codec Pack" it's about 20MB and contains ALL of the favourite video and audio codecs, DivX is popular but Xvid / OGG and others are also very popular.

Make sure that your Windows is upto date http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

make sure you download EVERYTHING it has, then once everything is installed check the site again for any more updates and continue doing so until your finished and there are none left, now download the all in one codec pack, and download the latest drivers for your video card.

also i recommend installing AVG 7 from Grisoft.com (free anti virus) or making sure your antivirus is uptodate, and also make sure you download Spybot Search & Destory - free, this will remove spyware which slows your machine down. All this will help in the performance of your pc and subsequently your video playback.

Are they legal movies or downloaded full length movies?

If it's full length movies you've downloaded I believe almost all if not all groups are now using Xvid for their encoding.

You can get the codec here.
